The association of "friends" was founded in 1975 and plays a vital role in the development of the Museum and its collections.
MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRPERSON
Main Purpose of the Friends of the Art Museum
Our main business, under our constitution, is to enlist the support of Patrons, Life Members and other subscribing members as well as the general public, to raise funds for the purpose of enlarging the collection of works of art and generally to encourage public interest in and support for the Art Museum and its collection of artworks.
As a result we also acquire, hold, accumulate, control, use and dispose of monies and property and use the income derived from this for the purpose of achieving the above-mentioned objects.
To broaden the scope of our activities we attempt to get as involved with the Art Museum staff as possible under the mandate of our constituion to assist them with the holding of functions in the Art Museum (to attract more people to the exhibitions) and to assist the Museum staff to obtain sponsorship for refreshments at these functions and for as many other functions at the Museum as is financially viable.
In order to achieve these aims, it is important that we receive sufficient members of the public to join our Friends’ committee. We are eagerly hoping that we will have new offers from the members or the general public to assist us perform our functions easily.
