Nicholas Hlobo, Standard Bank Young Artist Award Winner for Visual Art 2009 will return to Nelson Mandela Bay for the rescheduled opening of his exhibition, Umtshotsho, at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum on Friday 21 August 2009. The Friends of the Art Museum will combine their Friday Sundowner Event with the opening function in order to accommodate art lovers who were disappointed by the cancellation of the opening on 29 July 2009.
Nomusa Makhubu, artist and lecturer in Art History and Visual Culture at Rhodes University will join the party as guest speaker.
Hlobo will be conducting a walkabout of his exhibition at 16:00 after which members of the public are invited to enjoy a glass of wine and mingle with the Friends.
“We would love to offer the Friends of the Art Museum, artists and art lovers an opportunity to meet each other and get to know the Young Artist and guest speaker who will be visiting us for the special occasion” says Anthony Harris from the Friends Committee.
Hlobo’s award winning sculptural installation will be on show until 20 September 2009.
