Back to event index
Date: 22 October 2009
Time: 17:30 for 18:00
The Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum’s 2008 Biennial award winners, Christine Maree and Linga Diko, have spent a year in their studios each creating a body of works for their solo award exhibitions.
The two exhibitions will be opened by Mary Duker, Director, School of Music, Art and Design, NMM University, at a special function on Thursday 22 October at 17:30 for 18:00. All are welcome to join the winners in celebration of their success.
Linga Diko’s exhibition, Uhambo/ The Journey, comprises works which represent, through delicate mark-making and subtle humour, the struggles and hopes of people living under difficult conditions.
Christine Maree’s body of works, two family portraits, focuses on the family portrait as an indicator of familial dynamics and relations, particularly in a South African context.
Diko’s exhibition will be on show until 15 November while Maree’s will run until 25 November 2009. The Biennial Exhibition and Award 2008 catalogue, featuring the finalists and winners, will be available for sale at the Art Museum shop.
To attend the opening function, please RSVP to the Art Museum on 041 5062000.
