Fantasy, feminism and shopping malls
Jeanne van Eeden, Associate Professor, Visual Arts Department at the University of Pretoria, is interested in the notion of a global entertainment economy and the impact this has on culture and entertainment landscapes in post-colonial South Africa. In this presentation, she will broadly introduce the topic of shopping malls, casinos, cultural villages, and theme parks that have become an important part of the South African environment and will demonstrate how cultural geography, feminism, and visual culture studies can be combined in order to examine fantasy spaces that we take for granted.
The talk will be followed by informal discussion.
There is no entry fee and the presentation is open to the public. To reserve a seat please telephone 041 5861030.
