Time: 18:00
The Friends are arranging a cocktails and culture event to raise funds for the Art Museum. Barry Gibb, artist and lecturer renowned for his entertaining and informative talks on world art history, will be giving an illustrated presentation "Jackson Pollock and the Americans". The talk will trace the development of American art from the different forms of realism into abstraction including the works of Willem de Kooning, Frans Kline and others plus their European influences during World War II.
The Abstract Expressionist painters of the 1940s and 50s put American avant garde art in the vanguard of the development of modern Western art. The most colourful exponent of this art was Jackson Pollock with his drip and spatter technique which earned him the name of "Jack the Dripper"
Tickets for the early evening event are available at R40 per person (or R35 if you are a Friend) from Connie on 041 3671244 or 082 4720862. The price includes wine and snacks and guaranteed enjoyment.
