Back to event index

Date: 26 July 2006
Time: 17:30

Award-winning South African artist Churchill Madikida, and winner of the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art for 2006, returns home to the Eastern Cape this month. His exhibition, Like Father Like Son will be opened at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Art Museum by Professor BB Mkonto (Chairperson of the Eastern Cape Provincial Arts and Culture Council) on Wednesday 26 July at 17:30.

Preceding the opening function, the artist will present a talk between 15:00 and 16:00 at the Red Location Museum for all up and coming artists, aspirant youths and art students.

His programme of public participation will continue on Thursday, 27 July when he conducts a walkabout of his Like Father like Son exhibition at 10:00 at the Art Museum.

There is no charge for the events presented by Churchill.

Originally from the Eastern Cape, Churchill Madikida uses a range of contemporary media, such as video and photography to make strongly autobiographical art. "Through my art I aim to make societies understand themselves, risk self-examination, address issues, attitudes, and behaviours", says Churchill.

The exhibition, which will be travelling around the country, closes on 24 September 2006.
